Starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film has become one of the most loved movies of the year, and its unstoppable box office numbers reflect its immense popularity.Now, as the movie enters its third week, it has crossed the ₹400 crore mark and is on the verge of surpassing Padmaavat to become the highest-grossing Indian period drama. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his production house Maddock Pictures, Chhaava is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689.The film, mounted on a grand scale, also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj's stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It premiered in Indian theaters on February 14, 2025.
According to Sacnilk, on day 15 of its theatrical run, Chhaava has finally crossed the ₹400 crore milestone, earning ₹13 crore on the day. Even though the weekday collections have dropped by 50%, the film is still raking in impressive numbers.
The total domestic collection now stands at ₹412.50 crore, while the worldwide gross has surpassed ₹500 crore. The film has consistently maintained weekday earnings close to ₹20 crore, and this marks the second weekday where collections have fallen within the ₹10 crore range.

As per the latest reports, after dominating the Hindi box office, Chhaava is now set to release in Telugu. The makers announced on Instagram yesterday that the film will get a Telugu dub and will hit theaters in the language soon.Their caption read: "The epic tale of India's courageous son, #Chhaava, is now all set to roar in Telugu by popular demand. Witness the biggest spectacle, #Chhaava, in Telugu from March 7th. #ChhaavaTelugu Grand Release by #GeethaArtsDistributions."
Meanwhile, Chhaava has now been declared tax-free in Chhattisgarh. As per ANI, while making the major announcement on February 26, CM Vishnu Deo Sai stated: "Chhaava is not just a film; it is a tribute to our historical traditions, courage, and self-respect. Every citizen should watch it to understand the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj."The film had already been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh and Goa.
