Lady Superstar Nayanthara has been aggressively promoting her latest release Connect, a horror thriller helmed by Ashwin Saravanan. The film, which was released on Thursday ( December 22), has opened to mixed reviews. Nayanthara had aggressively promoted the film and had visited theatres in Chennai during the first day first show. Her cutout, too, was erected at one of the theatres, which is considered to be the first solo cutout for a leading leady. While fans have been celebrating the feat, a few detractors have trolled Nayanthara for her outfit.

Nayanthara had worn a brown turtleneck top during the promotions and had opted for saris for her interviews. Some of the fans trolled her for the turtleneck top and made lewd and vulgar comments about her on social media. Chinmayi, who shared some of the lewd posts on her instagram handle, “I AM WONDERING - WERE ALL THESE MEN BREASTFED OR NOT? I WONDER WHAT ALL HAPPENS IF THESE MEN HAVE DAUGHTERS. NO WONDER SO MANY MOTHERS WANT THEIR DAUGHTERS TO WEAR A DUPPATTA AROUND THEIR OWN SONS AND HUSBANDS. DO THEY KNOW THAT MEN WILL SEXUALIZE AND CANNOT CONTROL THEIR PHEEELINGS EVEN IF IT IS THEIR OWN DAUGHTER / SISTER? (sic)"

Nayanthara's Connect is bankrolled by Vignesh Shivan's Rowdy Pictures and the film has Vinay Rai, Sathyaraj, Anupam Kher and Haniya Nafis as part of the star cast. The plot revolves around Nayanthara and her family, when during the pandemic-induced nationwide lockdown, Nayanthara's character begins to notice some abnormal and eerie changes in her daughter's behaviour. The plot also shows virtual exorcism.

The film has music by Prithvi Chandrasekar, cinematography by Manikantan Krishnamachary and editing by Richard Kevin. The horror thriller doesn't have an intermission and is said to be an experiment of sorts by the makers. The post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix.
