Apple has found it’s leading man in Chris O’Dowd for it’s upcoming comedy, The Big Door Prize. The series is helmed by Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read.

According to Deadline, Apple had announced the project back in May after it had acquired the rights to M.O Walsh’s book, The Big Door Prize. The story is set in the small town of Deerfield, where one day a strange machine appears which is able to reveal the true potential of the townspeople. After discovering the true depths of their abilities, the people have to make the choice of either going back to their familiar, comfortable lives or try to live up to their potential.

Read will serve as executive producer and showrunner on The Big Door Prize.

Dowd will essay the role of a friendly teacher and family man named Dusty, writes Variety. Like his fellow townspeople, Dusty also has to make a difficult choice when he becomes aware of his hidden potential; either go back to his mundane, yet familiar everyday life or choose to explore the extent of his abilities.

The Irish actor has been a part of several popular comedies such as Girls, The IT Crowd and Moone Boy. For his starring role on State of the Union he won an Emmy Award in the acting category. Dowd’s film credits include Bridesmaids,The Starling and This Is 40, among others.
