Within days of the release of his third film, Cobra, director Ajay Gnanamuthu took to Instagram to respond to the film's detractors. The Vikram-starrer, which was originally 183 minutes long, was re-edited after its lengthy runtime was criticised.
Ajay responded to negative feedback about Cobra's weaker areas while interacting with his Instagram followers during a Q&A session. In response to a follower who was dissatisfied with the ending, Ajay wrote, "It is possible to write a climax in which the hero cleverly escapes and we show him in a foreign location freely roaming around with mass music and all... but it is not ethical to free that character for the crimes he committed! Right?"
Similarly, the filmmaker apologised to a fan who described the film's screenplay as "confusing." He stated, "First and foremost, I apologise for your confusion. However, as an audience member, I have always enjoyed watching mind-bending films and genuinely attempted it this time. Please watch Cobra again if possible. I hope you enjoy it."
Similarly, in response to a follower who expressed dissatisfaction with the film, the filmmaker wrote, "I apologise for your disappointment. Hopefully, the next time will be better. However, before concluding, give Cobra another chance."
Cobra features Irfan Pathan, Srinidhi Shetty and Mirnalini Ravi in prominent roles. With music by AR Rahman, the film, produced by Seven Screen Studio, hit the screens on August 31.
Cobra is just an actor's quest for superstardom, and is a disappointing fare, OTTplay review read.
"You expect a fantastic movie but what you do get is a travesty that leaves you gaping at its extreme blandness. Cobra is a mediocre film that struggles to be both a compelling swashbuckling adventure as well as a moving drama."
The long-awaited Cobra will premiere on SonyLIV, eventually, although we don't know the exact date, yet.
Vikram had announced that he would be collaborating with Ajay Gnanamuthu once more. During a special Twitter Spaces session, the Ponniyin Selvan actor informed his fans of the news.
"It's a one-of-a-kind story, and I'm very excited about it," Vikram added. Other details about the project are currently unknown.
