Coolie is one of the most-awaited films of 2025, as it is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and stars Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Upendra in key roles. Slated to hit screens on August 14, 2025, the film’s pre-release business is creating waves with record-breaking numbers.
As previously reported by OTTplay, the overseas rights have been sold for a record ₹84 crore. Now, we have details about the Telugu rights. There was massive competition to bag these rights, with top Tollywood producers and even Akkineni Nagarjuna himself placing bids.
According to the latest update, the makers of Kuberaa, Sunil Narang, has acquired the Telugu rights, along with star producers Dil Raju and Suresh Babu. A major share of the investment has come from Sunil Narang of Asian Cinemas, who last produced Kuberaa with Dhanush. The Kuberaa team was not initially in the race, but after the film’s massive success, they entered with a higher bid and secured the deal.
Coolie has generated massive buzz and has been bagged for a record price of ₹46 crore — the highest ever for a Tamil film dubbed in Telugu. With Nagarjuna playing a key role and recently scoring a hit with Kuberaa, his revived market has further elevated the film’s hype in the Telugu states.
Nagarjuna will be seen as the main antagonist in Coolie, which features music by Anirudh. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s last two films, Vikram and Leo, performed well in Telugu, further driving demand for the rights. With Rajinikanth teaming up with Lokesh for the first time, Coolie has global hype and is expected to release in a record number of screens.

The biggie will clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s War 2, which also hits theatres on August 14, 2025. Notably, no Tamil film dubbed in Telugu has collected over ₹40 crore recently. To ensure profitability for buyers, Coolie will need to open with blockbuster word of mouth. Let’s see what unfolds in the days to come.
