Venkat Prabhu's Custody was riding on good expectations ever since the project was announced as a bilingual with Naga Chaitanya playing the lead role in it. Krithi Shetty was roped in to essay the female lead, while Sarath Kumar, Arvind Swamy and Priyamani among others were brought on board to play crucial characters.

Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja composing music together was expected to be one of the highlights of the project which was billed as an action drama. The promo videos, featuring Chaitanya and Venkat, which were released prior to the movie hitting screens, went viral in no time and escalated expectations surrounding the film.

However, Custody which was released in Tamil and Telugu on May 12, opened to mixed response. Some of the film's aspects like action choreography garnered applause while the screenplay received flak despite a few clap-worthy moments.

It opened to more than three crores on day one in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while, the collection in Tamil Nadu on the first day was unbelievably poor. The makers had expressed confidence in the product a few times during media interaction and the film was touted to make Chaitanya and Venkat household names in Kollywood and Tollywood respectively, but in vain.

Custody is now gearing up for its OTT premiere. The action drama will drop on Amazon Prime Video on June 9. The platform has officially announced the same. The film revolves around Siva, a police constable who takes on a dangerous criminal.

A series of unexpected incidents force the former to take care of the latter's security. How the cop decides to handle the criminal dutifully and without harming him forms the rest of the story.
