The much-anticipated announcement from the makers of D55 is here! With the team announcing their cast and crew in the recent days, on Wednesday, the makers affirmed that Malayalam actor Mammootty will be joining the team of Dhanush-starrer film.
D55: Is Mammootty part of the Dhanush film?
We had earlier reported that Malayalam superstar Mammootty, last seen in Kalamkaval, will be joining the team of upcoming Tamil film D55. It is now official, with the production announcing the casting of Mammootty on Wednesday.
It is to be noted that it is after seven years Mammootty is coming back to Tamil cinema. The actor was last seen in the 2019 family drama Peranbu directed by Ram. The film was part of online debate recently after many fans pointed out how the film and Mammootty’s performance were snubbed at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards which were announced a few days back.
With D55, Mammootty will be sharing the screen space with Dhanush after a long time. Even as the two actors did not play full-fledged roles together, Dhanush played a cameo in Mammootty’s 2013 Malayalam film Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath. Mammootty, who has Padayathra with Adoor Gopalakrishnan, will be joining D55 after the project. He also has a gangster film with Nithish Sahadev.
What else do we know about D55?
D55 is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy who earlier made Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Amaran. The upcoming film will have two female leads, as of now. Sreeleela, who was recently seen in period political drama Parasakthi will be making her first collaboration with Dhanush, while actor Sai Pallavi is reuniting for the second time with her Maari 2 co-star and Amaran director. Sai Abhyankkar, who had given hit with Dude last year, is scoring music for D55. Further announcements on the project are expected to be made in the coming times. Dhanush is also onboard D55 as one of the producers.
