Patriot actor Mammootty to join Dhanush-Rajkumar Periasamy’s upcoming Tamil film D55

Dhanush’s upcoming Tamil film D55, directed by Amaran filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy, is reportedly set to feature Mammootty in a key role. Netflix has already acquired the film’s OTT rights.

D55, the upcoming Tamil film starring Dhanush in the lead role is set to get bigger, with an entrant of Malayalam superstar actor. Written and directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy who last helmed the blockbuster Amaran, D55 will have actor Mammootty play a prominent role.

D55: Who is the Malayalam superstar joining Dhanush?

In the first of their full-fledged collaboration, actor Dhanush will be seen sharing screen space with Malayalam actor Mammootty. It is to be noted that earlier, Dhanush played a cameo in Mammootty's Malayalam film Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath. However, the news has not been officially confirmed by the makers. If the news is indeed true, then the two powerhouses of acting, will star in D55, the upcoming Tamil film which is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy.

It has been a while since D55 was launched. Rajkumar, who gave last film as Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role and a blockbuster success, will be joining hands with Dhanush for the first time. The inclusion of Mammootty has not been unveiled so far. Reportedly, Mammootty will be joining the project after completing his recently announced film with Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Padayathra, and before taking up Nithish Sahadev's gangster actioner film.

Even as the title of D55 is yet to be revealed, the streaming rights of the film have already been sold out. Netflix, in its recent acquirement slate, had unveiled D55 as one of its upcoming projects. Further details on D55 are expected to be announced as the project progresses.

Mammootty, who was last seen in Malayalam flick Kalamkaval, made a cameo appearance in Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies. His next release will be Malayalam biggie and multi-starrer Patriot, which will feature actors Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara and others. Scheduled to release on April 23, it is written and directed by filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan. Mammooty also has Nithish Sahadev film, which will be set in Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.
