When Challenging Star Darshan announced that he was collaborating with the Yajamana makers yet again, there was a set of audience and fans that were not impressed. Yajamana, which had the actor take on the oil mafia, was a regular commercial film with nothing to write home about. Kranti, they feared, would also be in the same mould, and the teaser that came out for Darshan’s birthday this year, did not allay their fears. The latest revelation by a film news and box office tracking social media handle has made it even worse.

According to an inside source from team Kranti is about the hero, an NRI, saving a government Kannada school. The film is being made as a pan-India project, so fans wondered how the subject would work for an all-India audience. “Outdated script, disaster loading”, was the overwhelming response to the tweet, with some wondering if this was Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shaale, Kasaragode 2.0. A few went to the extent of calling it a Mahesh Babu formula and brought composer-director V Harikrishna into the conversation, asking on what basis he believes this could be changed around as a pan-India film. “Kranti story...... Kannada school in village are closing by some business with support of rowdies and darshan fight with rowdies and save the kannada schools.. End..... Pakka ede story a harmonium krishna taleli bere yen baroke sade 🤣,” wrote one.

The film, in which Darshan is paired with Rachita Ram, is nearing completion, with some reports suggesting that it may release in theatres as early as August 11. However, that seems unlikely and a Dasara release, in the first week of October is the best bet. Kranti was launched on Vijayadashami last year, so a Dasara release is befitting, although September 30 has already been snapped up for Dhruva Sarja’s Martin and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara.

Either which way, we should soon be having more official updates about the film and getting better clarity on what’s in store. Until then, let’s sit tight and wait.
