Dhaakad: Not Kangana Ranaut, but Katrina Kaif was the original choice to play Agent Agni

Kangana Ranaut shared the first look teaser of her character Agent Agni from her next venture Dhaakad on Tuesday, but she was not the first choice of the makers to play this role.

Dhaakad's producers had contacted another Bollywood actress for the starring role and it was none other than Katrina Kaif.

"She had enjoyed the concept," producer Deepak Mukut told India Forums recently, "but for creative reasons, the entire crew just thought that we should roll the dice with Kangana."

Deepak explained that while most action movies are hero-centric, doing one with a female lead “looked interesting” to him and his team.

In the teaser from the action-thriller, Kangana is seen performing heavy action sequences where her character is stabbing someone or wielding a katana sword. The teaser does not reveal anything about the plot, only introduces her new avatar, who seems to have done it better than anybody else..

Dhaakad is directed by Razneesh Ghai, and produced by Deepak and Sohel Maklai. Soham Rockstar Entertainment is presenting the film in collaboration with Kamal Mukut, Sohel Maklai Productions, and Asylum Films.

While Kangana was not the first choice, there is no question that she has turned the role into her own, and fans are eager to see Agent Agni in all her magnificence.

Kangana currently hosts reality show Lock Upp, which can be watched on ALTBalaji or MX Player. Her last on screen appearance was in the Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivii. The actor’s other upcoming movies are Tejas and Tiku Weds Sheru with Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Dhaakad will hit theatres on May 20 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Malayalam.
