Dhavak : Four reasons to watch Srishti Shrivastava starrer sport-drama short

Be it Rashmi Rocket, Looop Lapeta and Shabaash Mithu - watching a female protagonist in a sports drama is surely a trend that the audience has opened up to. While the latest released short film Dhavak also sets the narrative on the same genre, this film is unique. 

The story of the short revolves around the journey of the young sprinter Sudha Singh who won a bronze medal and aims to win the Gold medal for the National Championship. But what happens when her parents ask her to leave her dream and get married? The protagonist Sudha is played by Srishti Shrivastava while actor Vaibhav Talwar played the male lead in the film.

Inspiring sports drama - The journey of Sudha Singh is very inspirational when the story gets unfolded on how she deals with every obstacle. While societal constraints make her life challenging, she puts in her heart and soul to reach the final destination. As would the bride, the only expectation Sudha had was to have a husband who would understand her dream and passion. She wants to have a career as a sprinter even after marriage. Keeping that thought in mind, she asked her parents to arrange for a 'Race Swayamvar'.

Taking such a stand to achieve a dream is very inspirational for many youngsters, especially young girls who often have to compromise their dream due to social pressure and accept a domestic life after marriage. So Sudha sets the rule and decides to only marry the person who can win the race of 400 meters.

With a compelling screenplay and fine editing, Dhavak is a thought-provoking narrative that aims to bring about societal change.

Relatable, realistic locations - While in recent times we have watched multiple stories and biographical sports dramas, the beautiful and under-explored location of the film where real faces are shown, makes the short Dhavak all the more relatable for the audience. The film is set in Uttar Pradesh’s Ishapur, therefore the raw and authentic village vibe adds to the beauty of the narrative. The real-life settings not only make the story authentic but also emotionally engaging, and relatable for those young girls who are suffering from social pressure and compromising their dreams.

Efficient performance: Srishti Shrivastava narrates the character of Sudha and hailing from UP, Srishti brought nuance and authentic performance onto the table. The actress went through extensive training to build her physic as a sprinter and it is very much visible on-screen. Vaibhav on the other hand played the character of an IPS officer.

The rest of the supporting cast also touches a chord with the audience with their performances.

The film is directed and produced by the debutant filmmaker Abhishek Sharma, and dialogue writer Pururava Rao, and the film is edited by Akshara Prabhakar and Harshit Mahant.
