Chhaava, the historic drama directed by Laxman Utekar, has just made Viineet Kumar Siingh a household name once again. The actor portrayed Sambhaji Maharaj's (Vicky Kaushal) close friend and poet Kavi Kalash. In recent interviews, Viineet discussed how the film gave him the success he had been seeking after passing on the chance to star in the director's 2019 feature Luka Chuppi. An offer to play the role that Kartik Aaryan eventually played came his way.
In an interview with Digital Commentary, the actor recounted a moment when he nearly lost out on a main role in a film due to a misunderstanding. In his defence, he mentioned a film directed by Utekar, and the screenplay was by a mutual acquaintance. Since the idea came to him, Viineet assumed his friend was just asking for his opinion when he gave him the script; he wasn't trying to sell it.
They assumed Viineet wasn't interested because he took his time with it. It became clear to the actor when he spoke with Utekar that they were trying to offer him the movie. It took him by surprise. Since Viineet has a lot of writing buddies and they frequently exchange scripts for critique, it was his unfortunate luck that he assumed it was only for comments.
According to Viineet, misunderstandings can arise when people are too close, which can be uncomfortable. Rohan Shankar wrote the movie's script.
He remarked that awkwardness is a natural part of being close to someone. Because of such, not even his friend could inform him about it, and the chance passed them by. The name of the movie was Luka Chuppi, while Mathura Lives was the original title. They offered him the role of Kartik Aaryan.
Despite the popularity of Mukkabaaz, a film that the actor believed would shift his career trajectory, Viineet had no roles, he recalled in the same interview. He had to take on roles simply to pay the rent, and it didn't work out the way he expected.
After Chhaava came out and received favourable reviews for his role, Viineet posted a lengthy message on social media to thank his fans and everyone involved with the film for appreciating his hard work.
