Though there’s been no official updates on when Premalu 2 will go on floors, fan favourites from the Gireesh AD movie - Mamitha Baiju and Sangeeth Pratap - will be seen together in writer-director Dinoy Paulose’s upcoming film.
The makers had announced the film, which will be produced by Ashiq Usman, this weekend and now Dinoy, who will be making his directorial debut with the movie, tells OTTplay about the movie. “It’s a romcom, which we will begin shooting by September or October this year.We are yet to lock the locations, but the story is set in Kerala,” he says.
Ask him the reason for casting real-life friends Mamitha and Sangeeth as the leads in the film and Dinoy, who had previously written and starred in Thaneermathan Dinangal, Visudha Fejo and Pathrosinte Padappukal, says, “I think the only reason is that both of them were apt for the characters they play in my film. Also, Sangeeth and I have been good friends since Thaneermathan Dinangal; we have known each other for over five years and we are neighbours. Also, Mamitha and Sangeeth share a great rapport, which I think will immensely help the film.”
On how he plans to counter the expectations that comes from the popular Premalu duo reuniting for another film, he explains, “People can anticipate something good with this film. It’s different from the films I have written so far. It’s fun, but on a whole new level.”
The movie also has composer Govind Vasantha, editor Chamman Chakko and cinematographer Akhil George as part of its technical team.
Meanwhile, both Sangeeth and Mamitha have several big films lining up for release. Sangeeth is part of Sathyan Anthikad’s Hridayapoorvam, which has Mohanlal and Malavika Mohanan in the lead, while Mamitha is part of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, Suriya’s film with Lucky Bhaskar director Venky Atluri and Pradeep Ranganathan-starrer Dude, which will hit theatres in October 2025.
