Actor Dhanush, who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry, is a known face pan-India. He is set to appear in his second Telugu film, Kuberaa, which is set to release on June 20 in theatres. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, the pre-release event of the film took place recently, in which Dhanush’s fiery speech received both criticism and encouragement from his fans. But the Kuberaa actor also spoke about the sacrifice he made for fans, and what he prefers: acting or direction.
Even as Dhanush is a National Film Award winner twice for acting, the star has made a jump into direction. After making films like Pa Paandi, Raayan and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, Dhanush is already working on his fourth directorial, Idly Kadai, which is due for release later this year.
In the Kuberaa event, an AI-generated version of Dhanush’s younger self asked the actor if he prefers saying action or starring in front of the camera. “I like to tell action behind the camera, but my fans are waiting for my films, and it is for that reason I am still acting. If not for them, I would have left acting long ago and gone into direction,” he said, revealing that direction is where his heart lies.
Kuberaa is set to release on Prime Video after its theatrical run. The film will release in theatres on June 20. Also featuring Coolie actor Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh and others, Kuberaa has a runtime of three hours and music by Devi Sri Prasad.
