Trisha, who was last seen in Thug Life, played the role of Indrani in the film. Her role, which had courted much attention among the audience, was perceived negatively. In the Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam film, Trisha’s character, who was oddly paired up with both Kamal Haasan and Simbu, received criticism, with many feeling her role did not really contribute to the film.
With the disappointment evident among fans, it might perhaps be the best time to revisit Trisha’s previous film Ghilli, a cult classic which is now streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium. The streaming platform announced that the film will be made free from June 20 to June 22, owing to Vijay’s birthday.
Trisha’s role (Indrani) in Thug Life is that of a young woman who gets rescued by Kamal Haasan’s character (Rangaraya Sakthivel) in search of Simbu’s sister. Subsequently, Indrani forms an extra-marital affair with Sakthivel, as she maintains her loyalty towards him as much as Simbu’s Amaran makes advances at her. Her role in Thug Life did not garner much admiration from fans. Some even questioned if it was indeed Mani Ratnam who wrote such a female character.
But that being said, it might probably be the right time to rewatch Trisha’s iconic character Dhanalakshmi from Ghilli which is streaming on SunNXT for free between June 20-22. The film, headlined by Vijay, is a commercial potboiler, which revolves around a kabaddi player rescuing a young woman from the clutches of an obsessed and ruthless lover. Trisha’s Dhanalakshmi was much welcomed, along with her chemistry with Vijay and dance sequences in the film. Although Ghilli had released way back in 2004, and it has been more than two decades, the film is still being celebrated with the recent example of a re-release that took place last year.
Thug Life has been caught in a murky space, with Netflix, which has bagged the OTT rights, wanting to break the eight-week clause. Produced by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, Thug Life’s box office collection is not that great. With this, reports only add up, saying that the film might be out on the streaming platform by the last week of June.
