With the Hindi film Sitaare Zameen Par gearing up for release on June 20, Genelia D'Souza in a recent interview, spoke about starting out her career in the south. When she was asked about how and if south gave solid roles to women in their films, Genelia was quick to break the myth and affirmed that she always got the right roles and importance. "If you see my south films, I have got the best roles. It was my learning ground and I am eternally indebted to the work I have got there. If you go to Hyderabad, you will still know Hasini, or Harini in Tamil and Ayesha in Malayalam. So, I just think I have been very blessed in the kind of roles”

The actor also spoke about how people are seeking validation, which can be the "biggest problem" and said one has to do a role for the love of it. "Sometimes you need not say a word, but just emote and you have got a career that speaks for itself,” she added while mentioning that she loved her processes there and working with big names like Shankar and SS Rajamouli.
