Marvel released six new posters from Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness on April 12, 2022. Each reveals a new character from the distant corners of the multiverse.
Each poster displays the respective character's face in the forefront, with sections of their features obscured by a crimson magic mist.
Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), and Wong (Benedict Wong) each get their own poster, but Marvel also included photos for Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), as well as America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez).
Check out the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness character posters below:
While the posters do not provide any plot specifics, the characters chosen may reveal some information. McAdams' Christine Palmer, for example, made a brief appearance in the first Doctor Strange.
With her character getting its own poster, it's possible McAdams may have a bigger or even more important part in the sequel.
The fact that Gomez's America Chavez is included emphasizes the character's increased relevance to the new story, since her ability to jump between universes is expected to play a key role. Chavez is also reported to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first openly LGBTQ+ hero, making this a significant step by the franchise toward inclusivity.
It was also rumoured that Ryan Reynolds’ quick witted Deadpool will be seen in the movie, but this news was set to rest by the actor.
Here's a look at the latest trailer in case you missed it. The trailer shows us entering a new dimension.
Dr. Stephen Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) life is turned upside down after he loses his hands in a car accident. When standard treatment fails him, he turns to a mystical enclave for healing and hope. He swiftly discovers that the enclave is in the midst of a fight with hidden evil powers bent on destroying reality. Strange is soon forced to choose between his life of riches and rank and his duty to safeguard the world as the world's most powerful sorcerer.
Doctor Strange 2, directed by Sam Raimi, is building up to be a huge event film, following in the footsteps of Spider-Man: Homecoming and promising even more characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's outer reaches. "It's going to be an utter riot," Cumberbatch said, describing the film as "a huge, massive movie." And if it achieves the degree of ambition it has, we'll be successful on the level of Spidey. So there you have it; I'm going to bury my flag in the sand."
The Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness will premiere in theaters on 06/05/2022.
