Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, which is producing Don 3 (initially announced with Dhurandhar actor Ranveer Singh as the leading actor), has joined hands with Universal Studios. Excel Entertainment, known for producing content across films and OTT, has collaborated with Universal Studios, who now hold minority shares with Excel Entertainment. Excel Entertainment and Universal Studios' deal
Excel Entertainment and Hollywood giant Universal Studios were talking about a deal for months, a source informed Mid-Day. The source confirmed the same by stating, "The talks between the two have been going on for months now. Universal Studios has been quite keen on becoming a force in the Indian film market. The deal has finally [gone through]."
While Universal Studios have acquired minority stakes, Excel Entertainment still holds a majority of it. "Excel wants to expand the scale of its productions going ahead. There are big ideas in the pipeline," another source told the daily.
Excel Entertainment's upcoming projects
One of the biggest projects under Excel Entertainment is Don 3. While Ranveer Singh was roped in as the lead for the movie so far, it was recently reported that he has quit the film.
Other projects backed by Excel Entertainment include Mirzapur: The Film and Jee Le Zaraa. While Mirzapur: The Film's shoot has been on in full swing, there is still no major update on Jee Le Zaraa. The film, touted as the female version of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, was to star Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Alia Bhatt Kapoor in the lead roles. It is yet to go on floors.

Among the major OTT projects that have been backed by Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur remains the most-awaited Indian show. They have also backed projects like Dabba Cartel, Made In Heaven and Inside Edge. Apart from Mirzapur (both OTT as well as the film), there is no update on any other season related to their popular projects.
