Easter eggs you probably missed in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 1

Marvel’s latest offering She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is getting rave reviews across the board. The green female superhero who’s also Bruce Banner’s cousin is being lauded as a refreshing feminist dramedy and the show seems to be the sleeper hit of 2022 already. Based on the comic book, the show revolves around a self-motivated lawyer Jennifer Walters (played to perfection by Tatiana Maslany). In the first episode, the astute lawyer ushers us into a flashback sequence to reveal her origin story and how she came to acquire her super powers. The show features several hattips and tributes to other Marvel superheroes from Captain America to the latest addition to the MCU, Ms Marvel. If you’ve watched the show closely, it’s possible that you may have spotted them already. But if you haven’t yet, here are a few easter eggs that the makers left for us to spot:

1. First up, in a scene, Bruce Banner casually points out that Walters prefers having Cheetos with chopsticks. The feisty lawyer instantly rationalizes this by pointing out that it was a nifty solution to avoid having Cheetos fingers. This peculiar habit, however, seems like a tribute to actor Oscar Isaac whose viral clip of having Cheetos using chopsticks became quite a rage recently. Well, we’re just glad that noticing superheroes obsessed with hygiene will surely inspire young fans to follow suit.
2. Another important revelation is Bruce Banner’s Gamma lab which was first mentioned in Avengers End Game, which is shown in She Hulk: Attorney at law. In fact, Banner also explains that the said lab was been funded by Tony Stark and that it was built during the period between Infinity War and End Game.
3. The Infinity saga may have ended with Avengers: End Game but the iconic theme of the film will be retained in She Hulk: Attorney at law. In the scene when Walters approaches a damaged Stark-designed helmet in Banner’s hideout, this familiar track is recalled. The score by legendary composer Alan Silvestri has also been used in several non Avengers MCU movies such as Ant-Man among various Disney+ series.
4. In the scene when Bruce is familiarizing Walters to the benefits of being a Hulk, we notice a Hulk pinata hanging behind the bar. This particular souvenir looks like it has been borrowed from the Hulk celebrations in Thor: Ragnarok where similar masks and inflatables can be seen.
5. When we see Walters survive an accident and make it to a nearby bar, there’s a Roxxon signboard that can be seen in the foreground. Roxxon Energy is an organization that has been recurrently referenced in Marvel comics since the 1970s. The attorney also represented the firm in a case in one of the comic books. The organization has also been mentioned in several Spiderman video games, the Iron Man trilogy and TV series such as Daredevil and Loki. Roxxon also played a critical role in the first season of Cloak and Dagger, acting as the source of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson’s superhuman abilities.
6. Even the end credits of the show pack some serious Easter eggs that you just can’t ignore. The comic book style sketches that depict scenes from the show through artwork stills are more than telling. One of them finds She Hulk standing tall and proud in a crowded lift comprising a group of uncomfortable bystanders. This is an homage to the 2004 cover of She Hulk number 8 where the passengers in the lift may be different but the premise and design elements remain the same.
