As we inch closer to the big Empuraan release, Prithviraj Sukumaran and his team are wrapping up the formalities. In the latest update, Empuraan has been cleared by the Censor Board with a U/A certificate and the Mohanlal-starrer will release on March 27, 2025, as scheduled. From the certification to runtime, here are all the details of the much-awaited release of Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Mohanlal’s Empuraan gets U/A certificate

Empuraan has received a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), as per trackers online. The runtime of L2 Empuraan was also reported to be around 180 minutes.

Now that Mohanlal’s thriller film has received the certification from the board, the fans are eager to know when the first-day-first-show timings will be. An update on the FDFS timings is expected later this week.

Empuraan plot – what can we expect?

As the runtime of Empuraan is confirmed to be around 3 hours, we can be sure that director Prithviraj and writer Murali Gopy will give us an action-packed plot that will carry forward the story from the first part of the franchise, Lucifer. The 2019 film ended with Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas) being elected as the Chief Minister, and the political struggles in the state coming to an end. Even as the troubles in Kerala look to have subsided, the action shifts to a foreign terrain as Mohanlal is seen exiting with his henchmen, all dressed in black. Mohanlal, who up until then was seen in the role of Stephen Nedumpally, declares himself to be Khureshi Ab’raam.

Empuraan is expected to delve deeper into this revelation, giving us more insights into the murky world of power that Stephen or Khureshi appears to rule over. Prithviraj Sukumaran appeared as Zayed Masood, Khuresh’s loyal and trusted aide, in Lucifer. The director himself promised that L2E will give us a back story about his character too.
