Pictures of the TN CM meeting the cast and crew at the screening have been doing the rounds on the internet. He is seen interacting with producer Boney Kapoor and the film's director Arunraja Kamaraj. The film is hitting screens this week on May 20.
Nenjukku Needhi is a remake of the 2019 Hindi film, Article 15, a neo-noir crime drama, directed and produced by Anubhav Sinha. The Tamil version stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Aari Arujunan, Tanya Ravichandran and Shivani Rajasekhar in the lead. This is Arunraja Kamaraj's second directorial after Kanaa. Cinematography for the film is by Dinesh Krishnan and editing is by Ruben.
The title of the Tamil version, Nenjuku Needhi, is named after the autobiography of Udhayanidhi's grandfather and the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi. The title of the Hindi film is named after Article 15 of the Indian Constitution that prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or birthplace. Article 15 had Ayushmann Khurrana playing the lead, and his character uncovers the history of caste oppression in a village in Uttar Pradesh. The plot of Article 15 is said to be inspired by real life incidents, especially, the 2014 Badaun gang rape and the Una flogging incident in 2016. The makers of the Tamil version had made certain changes to the plot to suit the taste of the Tamil audience.
