Exclusive! Anirban Chakrabarti on The Eken: In 2018, we did not know if there would be a second season of Eken Babu

Anirban Chakrabarti started his journey as Eken Babu – Sujan Dasgupta’s lesser-known sleuth – in 2018 in a Hoichoi web series. The series and the character became an instant hit and came up with several seasons and a film. Now the sixth season of the series is all set to release in December. Meanwhile, the shooting for the second film of the franchise, Ruddhashwash Rajasthan, will begin in December. Directed by Joydeep Mukherjee, the film will also feature Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, Somak Ghosh, Rajatava Dutta, Rajesh Sharma, Subrat Dutt, Sandipta Sen, and others.

While talking about the popularity of the film, Anirban said, “In 2018, when we started the first season, we did not know if there would be a second season of Eken Babu. This character and the series have indeed given me a lot of love and recognition. In four and a half years, we have managed six web series and two films. This track record wouldn’t be there without the love and popularity of the film. I am overwhelmed.” 

The sixth season of Eken Banu was shot in Kolkata and it delves into a mysterious serial killer. The character leaves a clue of the next murder by their victim. The filming was done in the city with one day of shooting in Ranchi. The second film of The Eken franchise, Ruddhoshwash Rajasthan, delves into artefact theft. An artefact retrieved from the Harappa civilisation goes missing from a museum in Rajasthan. Eken Babu and his friends Bapi and Promotho embark on a journey to catch the notorious gang. Since the first film, The Eken, Suhotra, and Somak are playing Bapi and Promotho respectively. The first film shows the beautiful landscape of Darjeeling. Besides the three, the film will also feature Sandipta, Rajatava, Rajesh Sharma, and others.
