Shahid Kapoor is an actor who can blow you away with his effortless dance moves. Bloody Daddy is an action film. Since both dance moves and action sequences are choreographed, one wonders if Shahid finds it as easy to shoot action scenes as he does dance sequences, since they both have movement in common.

In a special conversation with OTTplay, Shahid spoke about one of his favourite dances from his film Haider and how the essence of movement changes with dance and action.

Shahid said, "It is interesting how dance and action are linked through movement. Both are driven by emotion and how the character wants to portray it. So, whether I am dancing, doing action, or walking on screen, it is a way that the character communicates something to the audience through his movements. It is also true that, at times, what the character and audience feel are not the same. For example, the character may be sad, but the audience may find it funny. We all know of such comic situations. But the beauty of dance and action is that physical movements convey a lot, and as a performer, what I am trying to achieve is to express all emotions through those movements."

Citing an example of one of his "favourite" dance tracks, Bismil from Haider, which was choreographed by Norway-based choreographer Sudesh Adhana, Shahid said that the power of movement was used in that song to express his character's rage and anger through a theatrical performative piece.

"There was a lot of intensity, rage, and anger in Haider, and the choreographer interpreted the mood so well that it showed in the choreography. In fact, I would say that Bismil is one of my favourite dance performances, because I do not know if I will be able to create such a magical performance ever again," said Shahid.

He added, "Action, on the other hand, is also about conveying emotion. But body language and action choreography change depending on the character's nature and situation. For example, if a character is attacking someone, the body language will be different as opposed to when the person is defending himself."

In Bloody Daddy, Shahid plays an NCB officer named Sumair who, along with his team, cracks down on a drug deal. The drug lord then kidnaps Sumair's son to retrieve the drugs, and what Sumair realises while trying to save his son forms the story of the film.

Bloody Daddy, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is an adaptation of the French film Sleepless Night. It also stars Ronit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal, Diana Penty, and Zeishan Quadri. The film will be available to stream on JioCinema starting June 9.
