Exclusive! Jamie Lever: Timing and presence of mind are the two pillars of comic performance

With her show A Spin Around Dubai receiving appreciation from the audience, to completing shoot for her web series and feature films, actress-comedian Jamie Lever is busy with work these days.

In a special conversation with OTTplay, Jamie, along with her brother Jesse, sat down for a chat and shared some tips on delivering a comic performance.

Jamie told OTTplay, "There are two important elements in any comic performance, be it on camera, on stage or just handling a situation in real life is. And that is presence of mind and timing. At times, there are random things thrown at us and we deal with it with a sense of humour, which is possible through your presence of mind. One has to be very observant, especially to become a mimic artist. Many times, when we are on stage, people tell us during live gigs, 'Iski tarha baat karke dikhao', and we may not be prepared for that. But as a comic, you have to be prepared for anything and everything. The source of comedy comes from daily life, so it is important to grasp everything happening around us and be aware."

The actress had appeared in films like Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4 and Bhoot Police, with multiple projects in the pipeline.

Jamie, who recently acted in the short film Cuddle, said, "As you know, Jesse and my mini-series, A Spin Around Dubai, has released. If we get a good response from the audience, we can do more shows in other countries with a new season, based on feedback . In a month or two, a web series in which I have acted will release. It is a comedy web series I and dad (Johnny Lever) are working together, while Kunal Kemmu is the protagonist. Apart from that, I am shooting for two feature films that will also hopefully release soon."
