The new web series Kafas revolves around the story of a child actor who is sexually abused on the set of a film. The fictional story has intrigued many people and started a conversation around child sexual abuse.
Sharman Joshi, one of the lead actors of the show who plays the father of the central character Sunny Vashisht (Mikail Gandhi), spoke to OTTplay about the importance of telling such stories with utmost sincerity and creating awareness about the crime.
"The subject of the show is an important one. We are talking about child molestation, and I strongly believe that the more we talk about such things, the less it will take place. The more people become aware of such abuse, the more society will become sensitised and understand what a family and a child go through if a child is sexually abused. It will have a greater impact on society. This way, we will be able to alarm and warn sexual predators that they cannot get away and cannot keep victims silent. We have laws to protect children, and the predator cannot run away."
The web series is an Indian adaptation of the British web series Dark Money.
The story revolves around a child actor, Sunny, who is sexually abused by a senior actor on a film set. Since the actor is a superstar, he puts pressure on the child and his parents to keep them quiet. How the parents deal with the abuse sets the basic storyline of the series.
Kafas is produced by Applause Entertainment and Madiba Entertainment, directed by Sahil Sangha, and written by Karan Sharma. It also stars Preeti Jhangiani, Zarina Wahab, Jyoti Gauba, and Geetanjali Mishra and is available to stream on SonyLIV.
