Nivin Pauly announced the title of his next, Shekhara Varma Rajavu, during the weekend and what has got the star’s fans excited is that he will be teaming up with Ishq director Anuraj Manohar for the movie.

Talking to OTTplay, Anuraj tells us that the movie is of a different genre compared to previous award-winning film that had Shane Nigam, Ann Sheetal and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead. “This is an entertainer and is based on the conflicts between the characters. It also revolves around the legal battles of a person,” he says, adding that contrary to the film’s title, the story will be set in the contemporary era.

While he doesn’t reveal anything about Nivin’s character in the movie, scripted by S Ranjith, Anuraj says, “It’s a role that will find Nivin space in the hearts of the family audience. It has a huge scope of performance for him as a commercial entertainer that would also appeal to critics.”

In a recent interview with OTTplay, Nivin said he had spent the time during the past two lockdowns discussing and fine-tuning scripts. Ask Anuraj if Shekhara Varma Rajavu was one of them and the director agrees, “Yes, we have been the script with Nivin for the past two years.”

The film, which is also produced by Nivin, will go on floors by end of March 2022 with Pattambi being the principal location. “We have confirmed the crew, but will finalise them in the coming months. Same goes for casting,” says the director.

Nivin, meanwhile, is set to complete shooting for Liju Krishna’s Padavettu, which will release next year in theatres, and will resume shooting for Ram’s Tamil movie soon.
