On Monday, filmmaker PC Shekar launched his new film, which has Darling Krishna and Ashika Ranganath in the lead. Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar and Prajwal Devaraj did the honours of launching the film’s title, Love Birds, as well as sounding the first clap at the muhurtha in Bengaluru. Ashika, who has been busy with other acting commitments, was not present at the muhurtha.

Love Birds is my 11th film as a director and is a light-hearted feel-good romantic story in the corporate sector. Krishna plays a software engineer, while Ashika will be an HR professional. Although we had a muhurtha yesterday, since it was an auspicious day, the film will go on floors only by early or mid-November, as I am currently winding up an untitled thriller with Manvita Kamath and Nakul Gowda in the lead. Arjun Janya is on board as composer for both these projects, which will take our tally of collaborations to nine. We share a rapport, which also means that Arjun knows exactly what I want for my films and delivers accordingly,” says Shekar.

The filmmaker, whose last release was The Terrorist in 2018, was supposed to do another film with Prajwal, but that project got delayed owing to the actor’s schedule and commitments. “It has not been shelved, but is on the backburner for now. The plan is to wind up Love Birds by the end of the year and then start the film with Prajwal in the new year,” adds Shekar. So, what was the filmmaker up to in recent times? “I spent a lot of time evaluating my style of writing and filmmaking and realized that I needed a refresher course to ensure that I do not repeat myself with my films. It is a human tendency to get into a comfort zone, but I am trying to avoid that,” says Shekar.
