“I have not had a release in more than a calendar year,” says Sharan, when OTTplay caught up with the actor about his upcoming releases. First up, the actor, who was last seen in Guru Shishyaru, has got Avatara Purusha Trishankupayanam, the second part of director Suni’s dark magic tale, the first instalment of which came in May 2022. While the team did not intend to have such a long gap between the two parts, owing to multiple factors, including delays in the graphics works and scheduling conflicts of artistes, among others, it eventually took nearly two years to get the second instalment out.

“Avatara Purusha 2 is where to the core element of the story unfolds. Ashtadigbandana Mandalaka was more about introducing all the characters and establishing the set-up for Trishankupayanam. Director Suni dealt with the loss of Rama Jois’ (Saikumar) son, my entry as Anila pretending to be his long-lost son, the romance with Siri (Ashika Ranganath), what my actual agenda is and teased the possibility of Kumara (Srinagara Kitty) actually being the heir of the Jois family. Now that all these factors have been dealt with, Part 2 will focus on the dark magic element of the story,” explains Sharan.

This will mean that Srinagara Kitty and Ashutosh Rana will have more pivotal roles in the sequel, which will be in theatres on March 22. “At the end of part 1, it is clear that the Trishanku Mani, which has been locked away safely at the Jois’ home, is highly coveted with multiple people after it and the powers that the beholder gets. The beauty of Trishankupayanam is that we will take audiences on a journey into that world and its possibilities. This is, of course, the portion that required the most graphic work and, hence, took time in the making,” the actor adds.

As serious as Trishankupayanam sounds, Avatara Purusha is still a Suni movie and he’s known for making family entertainers. Will the long-lost son of the Jois family return home for a happy ending to this tale? Sharan laughs, “Well, for that you will have to watch the film in theatres.”

Avatara Purusha Part 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video.
