Rabindranath Tagore established the Institute of Rural Reconstruction in Sriniketan in 1922 in an effort to reconstruct the local rural life and develop a sustainable self-reliant economy among the villagers. This is the centenary year of Sriniketan and Kolkata-based multidisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee will be celebrating the occasion at the annual concert of SPC Craft, his arthouse, on August 6. The event will take place almost three years after the outbreak of the pandemic.
Elaborating on his plans, the Belashuru actor Sujoy Prosad said, “At SPC Craft, we inculcate the spirit of life in many forms – arts, sustainability, creativity and humanity. The pandemic emphasised the need for a sustainable life for all of us. Hence, at our annual show, we wish to remember Tagore’s contribution to rural economic sustainability through Sriniketan – an economic miracle that he established one hundred years ago.”
The event will also felicitate filmmaker Aparna Sen for her contribution to the world of cinema and Rabindrasangeet exponent Pramita Mullick with Lifetime Achievement recognitions.
