Actress Tisca Chopra has always been a versatile actress and the actor's range as a performer is truly commendable.
From her award-winning short film Chutney, Chhuri, Rubaru to films such as Firaaq, Qissa, Ankur Arora Murder Case, among many others, the actress always brings her A-game to the table.
And in her upcoming web series Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya, which explores the supernatural genre, Tisca not only proves her skills as an actress but also her dedication as an artist.
From her emotional attachment with the on-screen character Avni to meeting with an accident on the set of Dahan, during a one-on-one conversation with OTTplay, Tisca opened up about all things work.
Speaking about her character, Tisca told us that her character Avni Raut experiences a lot of ups and downs in her personal as well as professional lives.
"The character I am playing in the show Avni Raut, is one of the very fascinating ones I have played so far; in the act, I am emotionally quite attached to her. It is interesting how the journey of the character goes way deeper than what is visible on the surface. There are a lot of things that happened in her personal life and that is why she deals with something, and on the other hand, she is also struggling to do her duty as an IAS officer when she reached the village of Shilaspura. She went to the village to make sure that all the development work takes place in the village but there are some traditional practices and faith that villagers have," Tisca Chopra told OTTplay.
"The journey starts when Avni gets into the web of people, the politics between the people, the community, her relationship with Pramukh played by Saurabh Shukla, her relation with her son, and many such elements come on her way. The journey becomes about how she navigates to reach her goal," shared the actress, when asked about Avni's growth during the course of the interview.
The story is set in a village in Rajasthan, named Shilaspura, where the villagers are of the strong opinion that the entire hamlet is cursed by a devil spirit who is resting inside a cave. If anyone attempts to carry out any activity around the cave, the spirit will wake up and kill all the villagers.
When Avni, as an IAS officer, comes to the village for the development of Shilaspura and work around the cave, a series of supernatural activities take place and people started dying. This, in a nutshell, forms the crux of the story.
Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya has been shot extensively under extreme weather conditions, and the cast and crew were accommodated in an old building.
While the outdoor shooting was quite tough for all the actors, Tisca shared how she met with an accident on set.
Tisca shared with us that at a crucial juncture during the shooting face, her face had started to 'swell up' without her even realizing.
"We were shooting in an old house which was shown in the show as the circuit house of Avni in Shilaspura. When we reached the location I saw the floor, and since it was an old haveli, the floor was quite slippery. I slipped once also and told everyone that we have to be careful about the floor. One day, we were shooting and I had a sequence in which Avni had to run. I was running on the floor and had the obvious fall on the slippery floor! But I did not stop there, I stood up and kept acting for an hour or so because I thought nothing happened. Then we realised that my face started swelling up, my whole body started to ache and Vikranth (director) asked me to leave everything and they took me to the hospital. Yes, it was a big fall (laughs!)," she shared.
"I think it happens we all of us actors, when we are in a character, we are not thinking of anything else. But yes, I think my body started reacting to the pain not immediately but gradually," recalled the Taare Zameen Par actress.
Tisca also mentioned that this is a very special show for her because Dahan is her second collaboration with the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar after their successful first web series Hostage: Season 1. She had played the female protagonist Dr Mira Anand opposite Ronit Roy in her debut series with the streaming site.
Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya has been directed by Vikranth Pawar, and produced by Banijay Asia, Deepak Dhar, and Rishi Negi.
The show also features Rajesh Tailang, Mukesh Tiwari, Saurabh Shukla, Ankur Nayyar, Rohan Joshi, Lehar Khan, among others, in leading roles and will be streaming on Disney+Hotstar starting September 16.
