After much anticipation, the makers of the upcoming Malayalam survival thriller Exit have finally revealed the date of its theatrical release. The film is all set to hit the big screen on March 8. Vishak Nair stars in a lead role in Exit, which is directed by debutant Shaheen Mohammed.

The censor board recently awarded the film an A certificate. The film was originally slated for release in February, but it was postponed due to censorship concerns.

Shaheen explained the reasoning behind the choice to postpone the movie's theatrical release in an interview with OTTplay. He asserted that the delay was caused by the producers' attempts to allay censorship worries resulting from extremely violent scenes.

What is Exit all about?

The story of the movie centres on four young men who spend the night stuck in a bungalow in a village in the 1990s. In the film, Vishak Nair portrays a man with cannibalistic tendencies who has been chained in an abandoned bungalow for over 25 years for unclear reasons.

The audience is captivated by this narrative and becomes keen on learning the backstory of this unsettling thriller. Fascinatingly, the movie is the first survival movie in Malayalam cinema, with a character that moves like an animal and has no dialogue.

Shaheen described Exit as a commercial film with emotional elements, not an experimental one. "We were also very confident that no character of that kind had ever been made in the history of Malayalam cinema," he continued.

The director of the picture also stated that the inspiration for the film came from some true stories he heard as a young child. "Many people told me stories about characters that were similar to mine. To make it appealing to the current audience, all I did was approach it from a modern standpoint," he said.

Vaisakh Vijayan, Reneesha Rahiman, and Tamil actor Sree Raam all have significant roles in the movie. Venu Gopalakrishnan produced the film. The director and Anish Janaradhanan wrote the script for Exit together.
