Bollywood actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has taken the decision to delay the release of his upcoming film Toofaan, in light of India’s worsening COVID-19 situation.
Even though Toofaan was slated to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 25, the makers decided to postpone the film "to stand in solidarity" with the people during the tough times.
Taking to Twitter, Farhan shared a note where he informed that the team has decided to postpone the release of Toofaan in order to support their employees and the wider community. He shared that a new release date for the movie would be announced soon.
“The situation in India is truly heart-breaking, and we at Excel Entertainment and ROMP Pictures send our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the pandemic," he wrote.
The statement also read, “Please continue to observe Covid Appropriate Behaviour. Also, please register and get vaccinated when it's your turn. On behalf of the entire team of Toofaan, we urge you to Stay Home, Stay Safe and Stay United. Jai Hind (sic).”

Toofaan is Farhan’s second collaboration with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Interestingly, the duo have only worked on sports films so far.
Previously, Farhan was seen stepping into athlete Milkha Singh’s shoes for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film went on to win the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Toofaan, a film about an underdog boxer, has Mrunal Thakur as the female lead. Unlike Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Toofaan is a fictional drama.
