2023 has turned out to be the breakthrough year for Naveen Shankar, who has delivered two compelling back-to-back performances. While as Ranjit in Ramenahalli Jagannatha's Hondisi Bareyiri he evoked relatable emotions in his audience, his role as the cold-hearted, brooding baddie in Gurudev Hoysala highlighted his versatility. The latter, in particular, accelerated his career and lent him the breathing space and control that he had been looking for in his career.
In his recent conversation with OTTplay, Naveen spoke about wanting to take some time out to pick the right scripts and if possible, work with the writers involved to tune them up. His fans, however, will get to see him in two distinct roles in the second half of the year.
First of the two is Shrikant Katagi's Kshetrapathi, which is set to release in July. The film has Naveen playing the role of an engineer who is implored to head back to his home town to tackle the existing agrarian crisis. The actor shares the film is as much a social drama as it is about the internal journey of a young man.
Srikant Katagi, who is written and directed the film, is said to have derived a lot of inspiration from the real-life problems faced by the farmers and the film is predominantly set in and around Gadag.
Fans will get to catch the first glimpse of Ksetrapathi when the teaser releases on June 15. The makers made the announcement through a special poster which states that the teaser will be out on Thursday, June 15, at 4:05 pm.
Ravi Basrur has scored the music of the film with YVB Shiva Sagar handling cinematography. Manu Shedgar is the editor.
