From mythological gods to billionaire-turned-vigilantes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is here to stay, no matter what naysayers think (here’s looking at you, Martin Scorsese). Moon Knight, the MCU’s latest offering, pushes the envelope further, giving fans a peek into the cult favourite hero’s psyche. If you haven’t spent your free time devouring the comics and aren’t very familiar with Moon Knight, this list will help you catch up before the show premieres on Disney+ Hotstar.

  • Moon Knight’s been resurrected by the Moon God!
  • No superhero origin story is deemed complete without a pivotal moment that grants them their powers, right? The same goes for Moon Knight, formerly known as Marine officer Marc Spector. When Marc is left to die in the desert sands, his allies lay him beneath a Moon God idol. Marc’s spirit meets Egyptian god Khonshu, who brings him back to life. They don’t call them god-like powers for nothing!

  • Is Moon Knight dealing with dissociative identity disorder?
  • Infallible superheroes are so last season. Moon Knight is your modern, relatable and humane superhero dealing with actual mental health struggles. The comics have portrayed Marc as developing dissociative identity disorder (DID) when his resurrection triggers a traumatic childhood memory. Here’s hoping that the series not only addresses his mental health but also tackles it sensitively *fingers crossed*.

  • What’s Ethan Hawke doing in the trailer?
  • Not to give spoilers away, but for Ethan Hawke’s first foray into the MCU, he’s presumably playing the big bad. Apparently, Hawke is playing Arthur Harrow, a Nobel Prize-nominated researcher. While the comics portray him working for an evil think tank and using unethical research techniques on humans, it’s unclear what direction the show will take. Honestly, a superhero show is only as good as its villain, so let’s hope the series gives fans a real baddie.

  • Did you catch a glimpse of Werewolf by Night?
  • With every new MCU release, fans eagerly wait for other characters to pop up here and there, and Moon Knight does not disappoint. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed Werewolf by Night making an appearance, although he is getting punched in the face by Moon Knight. The comics have shown Moon Knight being pitted against werewolves, so the show exploring that dynamic would make for fun viewing!

  • Will Blade show up in Moon Knight?!
  • If you’re a hardcore Marvel fan and have long awaited a Blade reboot, then maybe Moon Knight will bear you some good news! Since Moon Knight marks Marvel’s first attempt at exploring their more horror-leaning characters, there is speculation amongst fans that the Daywalker will also get a chance to shine. We reckon Mahershala Ali as Blade is precisely what the MCU needs!

Now that you’re armed with precious knowledge watching Moon Knight on Disney+ Hotstar will be a zany adventure you won’t forget. You can stream the latest episodes of this limited series every Thursday.
