The ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend has become a cause of worry for the industry. After several mainstream releases, which were subject to calls for a boycott, failed to make a mark at the box office recently, several Bollywood celebrities have weighed in on the worrying phase the industry is going through at the moment. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan too became a part of the ‘trend’ recently. Although the actor has not made an official statement regarding the same recently, an old interview of the star has surfaced on social media where he is seen addressing the issue.
In the video, Khan is heard speaking about the phenomena of ‘social boycotts’ of films. The actor began by joking that such boycotts are good, since it gives an excuse to the makers when their films do not do as well as they’d hoped. He said that this gave producers a chance to make the excuse that their films were good, but the reason for their failure was due to the boycotts.
He went on to make an analogy about a mother’s cooking, saying that just because the people who eat the food do not like it, it does not always mean that the cooking itself is bad. The actor said that he had received overwhelming love and support from fans in the country, like no other star has. On the boycotts, Khan said “I don't think it has affected me or my films, or will ever affect them”.
