In many ways, Suni's Simple Aagi Ondh Love Story came as a watershed moment in Kannada cinema. On the one hand, it broke the mould of the industry and allowed a young and fresh voice to thrive. On the other, it brought multiple enterprising talents to the fore and helped each of them to etch their individual paths in the business. We, of course, refer to Rakshit Shetty, Shwetha Srivatsav and writer-director Suni, and as the film completes 10 wonderful years of its release, the team looks back at this crucial juncture of their respective careers.
For Rakshit, who had only recently made his debut as an actor with Nam Areal Ond Dina, Simple Aagi Ondh Love Story allowed him to flex his muscles and announce himself as the new-age 'romancer'. The star in the making clutched on to the opportunity with all his might and delivered each line with style, emoted each sentiment with depth and proved that he was here to stay. And Shwetha Srivatsav was the perfect match for her co-star with her effortlessness and easy elegance as the duo elevated Suni's material with great on-screen chemistry.
For Suni, the film was a breakthrough moment not only because it marked his debut but also because he was able to create a unique sensibility for himself. Both the mischief and the rootedness in his dialogues and the innovation in his ideas have become his trademarks now. To this day, he is fondly referred to by many as 'Simple Suni'.
"10 years back, @SimpleSuni cracked something which made many lives… thanks Suni and team #SOLS… forever grateful #10yearsforSOLS," wrote the Sapta Sagardaache Ello in his social media post.
Suni would thank all the technicians, the producers and the audiences for making the film not just a box office, but also a cult success. About 3 years after Simple Aagi Ondh Love Story released, Suni made Simpallag Innondh Love Story, starring Praveen Tej and Meghana Gaonkar.
