Apple TV+’s star-studded anthology Extrapolations releases new images
The upcoming Apple TV+ Original series Extrapolations has released first-look images featuring some of its biggest stars. The series will explore how human relationships will be affected as the planet experiences various changes. The series features a star-studded ensemble, one that could even rival Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, with actors such as Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, David Schwimmer, Tobey Maguire, Forest Whitaker, Marion Cotillard, Edward Norton, Keri Russell, and Matthew Rhys just to name a few. The series is set for a March 17 2023 release.
Tony award-winning Nikki M. James joins Daredevil: Born Again
Disney’s decision to revive the former Netflix original series Daredevil was met with skepticism by fans when it was announced in 2022. There were concerns that Disney could tone down the gritty and grounded tone of the story which earned Daredevil several plaudits, and it is still widely regarded as the best superhero TV series ever created. Lead star Charlie Cox’s cameo in She-Hulk further elevated these concerns. However, the addition of Tony Award-winning actress Nikki M. James to its cast has given fans a reason to be cautiously optimistic about the soft reboot titled Daredevil: Born Again. Vincent D'Onofrio is confirmed to reprise his role as Wilson Fisk but there is no update on whether Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page and Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson will return.
New series about gladiators add Anthony Hopkins to its cast
Academy Award-winning British actor Sir Anthony Hopkins will essay the role of a Roman emperor in an upcoming period TV series titled Those About to Die. Roland Emmerich will helm the series based on a script by Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat. The series is based on the eponymous 1958 non-fiction book by Daniel Mannix about the gladiatorial sport in ancient Rome.
Liam Neeson to star in new Naked Gun film
Veteran actor Liam Neeson is set to star in the fourth instalment of the Naked Gun franchise. The action comedy franchise was immortalised by Leslie Nielsen in the 90s for essaying the role of Frank Drebin. In the new film, Neeson will play the role of Drebin’s son, and it will be helmed by Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers director Akiva Schaffer.
Emilia Perez, staring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña to begin filming this year
French filmmaker Jacques Audiard’s upcoming musical crime comedy, Emilia Perez, is set to commence production later this year. Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofia Gascón will essay the lead roles in the feature film. The plot will revolve around Gascón’s character, a Mexican drug lord on the run from authorities, who has a sex reassignment surgery and returns to her children 10 years later posing as their aunt.
Antoine Fuqua to helm Michael Jackson biopic
Emancipation and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua is set to helm a biopic on the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The film will explore the highs and lows surrounding the late musician’s life. Titled Michael, the film will be produced by Graham King, renowned for the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Horror film Visitation adds House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke as lead
British actress Olivia Cooke, popular for her role in Sound of Metal and as Queen Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon, is set to play the lead in a new horror film. Titled Visitation, the film will be directed by Nicolas Pesce and will feature The Queen's Gambit star Isla Johnston, Game of Thrones alum Alfie Allen, and Downtown Abbey’s Penelope Wilton. The film’s plot revolves around a 14-year-old named Maria who is forced to live in a convent with nuns after her mother falls terminally ill.
