Gary Oldman who is best known for iconic franchises, Harry Potter and Batman, recently opened up about his career struggles and personal crisis. He detailed how his roles saved him in times of need. He expressed utmost gratitude for his screen time in both cinematic pieces.

Gary Oldman credits two films for saving his career

The legendary actor recently appeared at The Drew Barrymore Show and became vocal about how his career trajectory changed after landing his breakthrough role in two iconic franchise projects. Being a part of the Harry Potter and The Dark Knight spiraled his career upwards and came as a light during his darkest times.

The 65-year-old British actor reminisced about his personal crisis when he struggled as a single parent while raising his kids. During a candid conversation with Drew Barrymore, Oldman spoke in detail about the franchise films for saving his life and how he received a handsome amount of money for less amount of work and simultaneously could dedicate the remaining time to his kids at home.

“Thank God for Harry Potter. I tell you, the two — Batman and Harry Potter — really, they saved me, because it meant that I could do the least amount of work for the most amount of money and then be home with the kids,” Oldman said expressing immense gratitude.

Detailing how the films helped him, he remembered how he juggled between his kids and career when he got divorced at the age of 42 and also won the custody of his children. However, this responsibility meant that he had to choose films that could also give him the freedom of shooting while balancing his family life.

The Harry Potter actor also shared how there was a shift in the entertainment industry with the rise in shooting films in various locations like Hungary, Australia and others.

For the unversed, Oldman portrayed the beloved role of Harry Potter’s godfather, Sirius Black in appeared in a pivotal role for four parts, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, and also in The Deathly Hallows: Part Two.

He also played Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.

The Oscar-winning actor recently appeared in Apple TV’s Slow Horses series.
