Century Star Shivarajkumar’s recent festive release, Ghost, is gearing up to end its theatrical run and head to OTT. The film, an action heist thriller directed by MG Srinivas, had been picked up by Zee Network for its satellite and digital rights, with the streaming date said to be November 17, a month after its theatrical outing. Zee5, we hear, holds the rights to all the dubbed versions of the film, but according to the latest buzz, not all of them will drop on November 17. A source tells us, “Zee5 will release the Kannada and Telugu versions of Ghost first. The rest will be delayed.”
Interestingly, the Telugu version of Ghost is hitting theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on November 4. This was supposed to have released on October 27, but was delayed. It is also not clear why the Tamil version of the film is not headed to OTT simultaneously, as it hit theatres in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In fact, although a Malayalam version had been put together, it did not release in Kerala. The Hindi version, which was distributed by Pen Studios is also ready. The source adds, “Zee5 has not clarified why the other versions are delayed, but is looking at making the Kannada and Telugu premieres a grand occasion.”
Ghost, which also stars Jayaram and Prashant Narayan in pivotal roles, has Shivarajkumar in three distinctive avatars, including a digitally-de-aged one. The film, set in a prison, unfolds in a 48-hour time frame, with the actor, as gangster Dalavayi, holding the heavily guarded jail hostage, along with a former CBI officer to find a loot of gold that was hidden away within the premises. Jayaram plays the officer called in to solve the crisis. Following the warm reception to Shivarajkumar’s Dalavayi avatar, the makers announced that the character will get a spin-off.
