The 79th Golden Globe Awards were conducted in a scaled-down ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, with no crowd and no livestream or television broadcast. The nominations were announced on December 13, 2021. NBC, as well as streaming behemoths Netflix, Amazon, and Warner Media, are boycotting the ceremony due to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's (HFPA) failure to take steps to expand the organization's diversity of membership.
Belfast and The Power of the Dog each garnered seven nominations, while King Richard, Licorice Pizza, and West Side Story each received four. In the television category, the HBO drama Succession received five nominations, while Apple TV+ shows Ted Lasso and The Morning Show both received four nominations.
