The film was expected to be out on November 12, but had to be pushed ahead, as the team, especially Ganesh, is still coming to terms with the loss of Puneeth Rajkumar, whom Ganesh had met the night before his ill-fated passing.

Ever since the team of the upcoming Suni directorial Sakath began releasing promotional material, like the song Premakke Kannilla and the teaser for leading man Ganesh’s character, Balu, the buzz in the industry was that Sakath was set to hit theatres on November 12. Although there was no official confirmation on this, it was thought to be one of three Kannada releases that week.
Earlier today, though, the team announced that the film will release on November 26 only. According to sources in the know, the release plans were pushed ahead as the team, primarily Ganesh, is still in mourning following Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s death on October 29. Ganesh was with Puneeth at music man Gurukiran’s birthday party the previous evening, where the two of them sang karaoke and made merry, videos of which flooded social media after Puneeth’s tragic death the next morning. Puneeth and Ganesh were known to be close to each other, as also their wives, Ashwini and Shilpa. So, it seemed too soon for the Golden Star to move on and begin promoting his film, say sources.
Sakath moving ahead gives Nenapirali Prem an almost clear window for his milestone 25th film Premam Poojyam on November 12. Ganesh’s film is now wedged between the heavy-duty November 19 weekend, which has Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, 100 and Mugilpete and the December 3 release of Sriimurali’s Madagaja.
According to filmmaker Suni, Sakath is the tale of a visually-challenged musician Balu, who participates in a reality show. However, since the song and teaser came out, it’s become increasingly clear that Ganesh’s character is only pretending to be visually-challenged with an ulterior motive, which will be revealed only when the film releases. Sakath pairs Ganesh with Nishvika Naidu, who plays a visually-challenged character as well.
