On Monday, the fusion band Shakti, comprised of Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, received the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album. This Moment, the band's most recent album, was the recipient of the prize.

The Grammys uploaded an image on their official X account, formerly known as Twitter, showing Mahadevan and another member of the band, Ganesh Rajagopalan, receiving the prize on stage. Grammys noted in the post, "Congratulations, Best Global Music Album Winner, 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs"

Shankar Mahadevan's acceptance speech

Mahadevan stated, "Thank you, boys" during his award speech, expressing gratitude to God, their family, their friends, and India. The ace musician went on to say that India has their utmost admiration. Last but not least, he also dedicated the award to his wife upon receiving this honour and said that every single note that he composes in his music is dedicated to her. The crowd responded to the musician's words with a resounding round of applause.

The album titled This Moment, created by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (singer), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist), was released on June 30 of the previous year. In addition, they received a Grammy Award nomination alongside musicians such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

John McLaughlin reflects on Shakti's nusical journey and the significance of This Moment

According to McLaughlin, a lot of heart and soul went into making the new "studio" record, This Moment. This album is a watershed moment in Shakti's career as a musician. Commencing in 1973, it signifies half a century of collaboration and performance. He added that it has all come together here and now in the 21st century as a result of the band's extensive concert history and the many times members have worked together on musical projects.

The 66th Annual Grammys are taking place at Los Angeles's Crypto.com Arena this year. For the fourth consecutive year, Trevor Noah hosted the prestigious event.
