The first teaser of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is here and fan speculations have already started pouring in. Since this is the director’s last instalment of the Guardians trilogy, fans predict that it will have many heart-breaking moments, especially involving Rocket. The visuals of baby Rocket before he was experimented on and of him with his girlfriend Lylla (a genetically modified otter), as well as a line in the teaser in which he says that he’s done running are giving credence to the theories that it may just be the end of the road for the gun-totting raccoon. The consensus on social media right now is that something bad is going to happen to the character voiced by Bradley Cooper.

“I feel like Rocket is going to die,” wrote one user on social media, while another chipped in, “after watching guardians of the galaxy vol 3 trailer im worried rocket’s gonna die 😳 pls no.” Yet another wrote, “man that guardians 3 trailer. they’re definitely killing off rocket and make me cry there for 4 hours straight.”

Add to that the scene of Peter/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) weeping and the theory takes a Drax spin. “I can already tell that Rocket and Drax are going to die in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 because of this scene in the trailer and I can tell that I will cry at both deaths,” wrote a fan.

Earlier, releasing the teaser on social media, Gunn wrote, “On May 5, we fulfil the promise; the completion of a trilogy, the end of an era. The last ride. We are Groot,” adding, “One more time with feeling. The teaser trailer for the finale of Guardians trilogy.”

The MCU will open its 2023 slate of films with Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 on May 5 and The Marvels on July 28.
