Harish Kalyan: 'With regards to Star, the only point that upset me was...'

Actor Harish Kalyan, who is expecting the release of his film Lubber Pandhu soon, opened up about being dropped from the 2024 Tamil film Star, which was then released with actor Kavin playing the lead role. Speaking on the sidelines of Lubber Pandhu promotions, Harish Kalyan was quizzed about the project, to which the actor revealed how he had to leave the project.

Harish Kalyan opens up about Star

For the unversed, Star is a 2024 Tamil film starring Kavin in the lead role and was directed by Elan. The film was first launched with Harish Kalyan in the lead role, and various posters of the actor dressed up as iconic stars were released. However, subsequently, for reasons not made public, Kavin replaced Harish Kalyan, and the film was released in May to mixed reviews.

Now, in the latest podcast, while promoting his upcoming film Lubber Pandhu, the actor was asked about Star. “We had released posters of the film with me. I was supposed to do it, but could not due to some reasons. When I am working with a director, I treat them as a brother or friend. And if I also get treated the same way, we become close. I would not give up that relationship for professional reasons. For example, if I am working with the director, I will not change my rapport irrespective of the professional front. With regards to Star, only that point upset me because so many things happened. Some came to my notice and some did not, which could have been addressed by a particular person in better way."

Harish Kalyan said that in 2020 they had started Star and he was part of the pre-production works. However, the actor also said that the project was drifting and as the silence fell, the announcement on Star was made. When asked if it was a mutual decision, Harish Kalyan said no.

Harish Kalyan’s Lubber Pandhu is all set to hit theatres on September 20. The film is a cricket-based sports drama which also stars Attakathi Dinesh. Lubber Pandhu is helmed by filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu in his directorial debut. It also features Swaswika and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy as the female leads.
