Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has often highlighted in his media interactions that the script of any film, regardless of its scale, is its essence. Known to spend a lot of time honing his ideas and developing them into full-fledged screenplays, Rajamouli has asserted that he wouldn't go ahead with a project only if he's completely convinced of its underlying elements. Despite being arguably the biggest director working today in Indian cinema, the Baahubali maker is a tough man to please as far as ideas are concerned and his body of work speaks volumes about the standards he sets for himself.

So, in this vein, one wonders what compelled him to expand a consummate experience like RRR into a potential movie franchise. RRR 2, as it would most likely be titled, is in the works and as divulged by Rajamouli himself, his father and writer K.V. Vijayendra Prasad is shaping the exciting idea into a story as we speak.

"After the success of every film, you are generally trying to figure out if the story can be continued in any way. There will obviously be a few interesting ideas but we are seriously consider is whether any of these ideas is compelling enough to be made into another film. If it isn't, financial benefits aside, we won't go ahead. We are clear about that. Even in the case of RRR, we had a few ideas initially that were good but not great so we have left them aside. Suddenly, a few weeks ago, my father, myself, and my cousin - the core story team - we were discussing and my cousin came up with a fantastic idea which made go "oh, great. This has to be made". But for a film to get made, there are many, many things that must come together. The most important one, of course, is the script - a full script has to be readied and then we shall look into other aspects like when and how it can be made. But yes, at this point in time, I have a great idea which I really think can come out as RRR 2," said S.S. Rajamouli recently at a public gathering. For obvious reasons, the filmmaker drew a massive applause and a few whistles and hoots from the crowd in front.

While the concluding events of RRR leave no open ending as such for the sequel to take off from, one can presume that the writing team is keen on lending the Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan respectively) a new setting and conflict to deal with. The team would also likely consider adding to the glittery starcast, or make Alia Bhatt's Sita a more prominent presence in RRR 2, but it is safe to say at this point that a long process is due before any concrete updates come our way.
