Silambarasan's much-awaited gangster saga Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is all set to hit screens on September 15. The film directed by Gautham Menon is a gangster saga that revolves around the rise of Muthu, a poor youngster who goes to become a dreaded gangster. As the film gears up for release, Abhishek Bachchan sent across his wishes to the team, and said that there were so many people he admired in the film. Taking to his social media handle, Abhishek Bachchan wrote, "So many friends and people I admire in this. Can’t wait to see it. All the best guys. @menongautham @SilambarasanTR_ #VendhuThanindhathuKaadu (sic)."

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is said to be released in two parts and the first part has been titled The Kindling. The star cast includes Silambarasan and Siddi Idnani in the lead and the supporting cast includes Radikaa Sarathkumar, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav and Aangelina Abraham. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. The audio launch was held recently in Chennai, for which Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan was present. The soundtrack comprises the songs - Kaalathukkum Nee Venum, Muthu's Journey, Marakuma Nenjam, Unna Nenachadhum and Malllipoo. The film is said to have a runtime of 3 hours.

The plot is based on a novel penned by B Jeyamohan and it is said that the film revolves around the plight of migrant labourers, a raw and rustic film that Gautham Menon hasn't explored so far. Silambarasan had undergone a major body transformation for the film. Cinematography is by Siddhartha Nuni and editing is by Anthony. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is bankrolled by Ishari Ganesh's Vels International. The film's digital rights have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video. This is the fourth collaboration between Silambarasan and Gautham Menon after Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (2010), Achchan Yenbadhu Madaimayada (2016) and the short film, Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn (2020).
