Game of Thrones fans have a reason to rejoice as its prequel series House of the Dragon's release date has finally been unveiled. The Olivia Cooke and Matt Smith starrer show is all set to premiere on August 21.

Makers took a new poster of the fantasy drama series to Instagram and shared the news of the date of release with the fans. The upcoming show is based on George R R Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood. Martin is also the creator of the series, which focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen and will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. House of Dragon’s first season, which will premiere in August, will have 10 episodes.

Apart from Olivia and Matt, the House of the Dragon also stars Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy, Milly Alcock, Emily Carey, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Graham McTavish, Ryan Corr among others in a huge ensemble.

Last year, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, wished the cast and crew of House of the Dragon good luck.

Meanwhile, after unveiling the date of release to the forthcoming series, the makers revealed the names and looks of the actors' characters in the series
