There is a lot to talk about regarding the buzz around the next season of House Of The Dragon and how the show is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. And it seems like a cast member is on a different race, one that will end up being another massive IP in her kitty if she wins and gets cast. James Gunn is busy shaping his DCU as we speak, and it has now been over a year that we have been hearing rumours. The latest reports suggest that the studio is looking for their new Supergirl, and Milly Alcock is in the race with other actors. So while Sasha Calle is getting replaced, we thought, why not introduce you to the three potential contenders to replace her?

The Three Contenders:

It is not an easy task to find the new Supergirl after having Calle, who managed to impress the audience with her performance. The latest reports now say that the casting for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow will begin next month, where James Gunn and Peter Safran will first zero in on the titular character by conducting auditions. The three names that are now the frontrunners to play the part are very interesting.

House Of The Dragon fame Milly Alcock is right now in the lead, as per reports, and is labelled as the top choice at the moment. The actor made her way up on the ladder through multiple TV shows, of which the Game Of Thrones prequel is the most prominent; she played the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season and was in the centre of it. She is also known for A Place To Call Home, Uptight, and more. As for Emilia Jones, the second contender on the list, she is known for playing Ruby Rossi in CODA, a movie that won an Oscar.

The third and most interesting of them all is Meg Donnelly. You ask why? Well, while she is a known face in Disney’s Zombies franchise, she has already tasted the vibe of Supergirl. Meg has voiced the character in DC animated films like Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earth Part One and Legion Of Superheroes. This probably makes her contention even stronger, even if Milly is in the lead.

What Is Supergirl Movie?

Titled Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, the film around the interesting superhero is an integral part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters of the DCU. The movie was announced by the filmmaker and boss back when they confirmed the new slate. It will be based on the 2022 book series by Tom King. This one will be different from the perspectives you have seen so far. As per James Gunn’s comments, it will be about a girl who saw only destruction for over a decade and came down to Earth to see a world different from the hell she has gone through. While Superman has a heart, Supergirl has buried it under Kryptonian stones.

What Is The Casting Buzz About?

Sasha Calle being shown the exit was not welcomed by the fans, and they were all angry with James Gunn and Peter Safran for doing so. According to the gossip we have heard, the bosses are looking for a comic-accurate Supergirl and want her to have blonde hair and blue eyes. There are also reports that Supergirl might have a space in Superman: Legacy, which Gunn is directing right now as his first live-action film after taking the boss chair.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow Release Date:

It is too soon to know the release date of this project because even pre-production is in a very early stage. As for the entire DCU, Legacy, the first live-action movie, is set for a July 11, 2025, release. Which means everything else will be released beyond that. So expecting Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow before mid-to-late 2026 will be a bad idea.
