Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness announce an amicable divorce after 27 years of marriage

Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra Lee Furness, have decided to divorce on amicable terms. The estranged couple released a joint statement to the People publication, stating that they have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. However, they have reached a fork in the road and must go their separate ways if they want to continue developing as individuals.

The statement further stated that the welfare of their family has always been and will continue to be their top priority. Hugh and Deborra are entering this new phase with appreciation, affection, and consideration. To help their family during this time of change, they asked people to please respect their need for privacy. "Deb and Hugh Jackman" sign the statement at the end, which reads, "This is the only statement either of us will make."

Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, are the children of the Australian couple, who have been married for 27 years.

Early relationship

The two stars began dating shortly after meeting on the set of the 1995 Australian television series Corelli. Deb was an established actor when she married Hugh, a young actor straight out of theatre school.

Back in 2017, Hugh said that he would never forget their first meeting and revealed that she was a major celebrity. When the car came to pick him up, he saw Deb sitting in the driver's seat. Then she removed her seatbelt, turned around, extended her hand, and removed her sunglasses to introduce herself as "Deborra-lee Furness." At the time, the Wolverine star thought to himself, "I like this girl."

In April this year, when Hugh and Deborra celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary, the Greatest Showman star took to Instagram to express his deep affection for his wife. He wrote that they are a beautiful family because of each other and the way they live together. To have Deb in his life has been a great blessing because of her laughter, spirit, generosity, humour, cheekiness, courage, and loyalty.
