Madhur Bhandarkar is all set to bring another affecting tale to the silver screen yet again. With his upcoming film, India Lockdown, the director promises to explore how the lives of ordinary citizens of the country were thrown into a tizzy when the government announced a nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, which had far reaching consequences. The makers recently unveiled the film’s teaser, which gives a glimpse into how the situation affected people from different walks of life.
The teaser shows how the entire nation was taken aback by the news of the sudden onset of the pandemic, which necessitated the government to declare a nationwide lockdown of 21 days. The situation resulted in losses in the livelihoods of many who lived at the fringe of society. We are taken back to the haunting times which saw hordes of labourers try to make their way to their hometown on foot, unable to secure any means of transport, among other things.
Check out the teaser below:
The upcoming film follows the stories of four different lives- a sex worker who’s means of livelihood is effected by the lockdown, a migrant labourer and his family who struggle to get to their hometown, a father-daughter duo stuck in different cities, and a busy airhostess who finds herself suddenly with more than enough time to introspect. The film stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Aahana Kumra, Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar and Prakash Belawadi in pivotal roles.
Bhandarkar has directed the film, as well as written its script along with Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah. Touted to be India’s first feature film based on the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was produced under the banners of Dr. Jayantilal Gada’s PEN Studios, Bhandarkar’s Bhandarkar Entertainment and Pranav Jain’s P J Motions Pictures.
India Lockdown will premiere on ZEE5 on December 2.
